Overview
Vanessa Mensink is an associate at Rochon Genova whose practice focuses on civil sexual abuse and assault matters. She is a compassionate advocate dedicated to helping survivors navigate the civil court process and empowering them with information and options. She provides thoughtful advice and approaches her work from a trauma-informed perspective.
Before joining Rochon Genova, Vanessa worked on a broad range of litigation matters, including institutional sexual abuse, human rights matters, bankruptcies and insolvencies, commercial disputes, and class actions involving sexual harassment, discrimination, and abuse. She has experience advocating for clients before administrative tribunals, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and the Supreme Court of British Columbia.
Vanessa received her Juris Doctor from the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia in 2017. She was called to the bar in British Columbia in 2018 and in Ontario in 2022.
Prior to law school, Vanessa worked for nearly six years as a victim support worker. In that role, she helped adult and child survivors of sexual violence navigate the criminal court system, provided information about the court process, accompanied survivors to court appearances, and supported individuals attending hospital for sexual assault examinations. That experience shaped her decision to attend law school and continues to inform her survivor-centred practice.
