March 23, 2026 – Rochon Genova is saddened to learn of the fatal collision that occurred late on the night of Sunday, March 22, 2026, at New York’s LaGuardia Airport involving an Air Canada Express flight and an airport rescue vehicle.
At approximately 11:47 p.m., Air Canada Express Flight AC8646 (operated by Jazz Aviation) was landing on Runway 4 when it struck a Port Authority aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) vehicle. The fire truck was crossing the runway to respond to a separate emergency. The plane was a Bombardier CRJ-900 regional jet traveling from Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL) with 72 passengers and four crew members on board.
Tragically, both the pilot and co-pilot of the Air Canada flight were killed in the crash. At least 41 people from the aircraft were taken to local hospitals in Queens. While most were released, nine remained in care as of Monday morning, some in serious condition. The two Port Authority employees inside the fire truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched a “Go Team” to lead the investigation. They will focus on the breakdown in communication between air traffic control and the ground vehicle.
Our investigation of this incident is currently ongoing. If you or someone you know was a passenger on this flight and wish to retain or speak with us, please contact Sara Nagalingam by phone at 416-363-1867 ext. 2950 or by email at snagalingam@rochongenova.com.
