Rochon Genova is saddened to learn of the fatal shuttlebus crash which occurred in the Dominican Republic and resulted in the tragic death of two Canadians and injuries at least 19 other people on March 1, 2026.  A number of the passengers were transferred to a specialized trauma hospital.

The crash occurred when a shuttlebus transporting tourists from Punta Cana International Airport to their hotel in the town of Juan Dolio slid off the road in La Romana, east of the country’s capital of San Domingo.  The force of the crash was such that some of the passengers were ejected from the shuttlebus.

According to the World Health Organization, the Dominican Republic has one of the world’s highest traffic fatality rates.
